Rules for Successful Events at the Brown House
Prior to your event, you will need to provide proof of liability insurance coverage (“Certificate of Insurance”) in the amount of $500,000.00 showing the specific date of your event and naming the Santiam Heritage Foundation as an additional insured.
If you wish to serve alcohol, you will need to have a licensed server and obtain your own “Host Liquor Liability” insurance, showing the specific date of your event and naming Santiam Heritage Foundation as an additional insured. As an alternative, you can hire a caterer who can provide you with both a licensed server and the required insurance. All OLCC rules and regulations apply.
Due to the historic nature of the Brown House, tape, tacks, and staples are not allowed for use in hanging posters or other items on the walls. We have special hangers you can use in the parlors. Any hanging device which does NOT damage the walls may also be used. Flowers should be arranged off-site in containers which will not leak. Open flames (including smoking) are not permitted, however, battery operated lights and other devices are okay. Rice, confetti, birdseed, potpourri, glitter, etc., may not be used in the house or on the grounds; flower petals, however, are fine but must be cleaned up at the end of your event (of course!). Smoking is allowed ten feet from the property (across the street is probably the easiest way to ensure no smoking on the grounds).
Any children attending your event MUST be under adult supervision at all times, and the supervising adult may NOT be the person in charge of the event or the person the event is honoring. The supervising adult must have the supervision of the child(ren) as their primary responsibility at your event.
Pets are not allowed in the building, however, service animals are welcome. Leashed animals are permitted on the grounds, however, any waste must be bagged and removed.
The Brown House is a treasure for the City of Stayton, and we expect our renters to care for the house, its furnishings, and property – just as the foundation does – in order to preserve it for use by future generations of Staytonians!
If the security deposit is not required to pay for additional time, damages, or cleaning, you may choose to apply it toward your final bill or donate it to the Santiam Heritage Foundation.
