25 years in the making: A new chapter for the Brown House

For twenty-five years, the Brown House has been a labor of love and a work in progress. Now, we are thrilled to announce that the era of 'under construction' is finally over, and the era of community celebration has begun.

The refurbishment of our 1903 historic home is officially complete. After two and a half decades of work, we have finally turned the corner from a construction project to a fully operational community event center.

The house is back to its former glory, and now we need your help to bring these rooms to life. We have a packed schedule for 2026, and we would love for you to be a part of it.

What’s Happening at the House in 2026

We are hosting Open House Tours on the 2nd Sunday of every month. We also have several major events where we need community support:

  • History Collaboration Series: Running monthly from February through November, featuring local history from Jefferson, Aumsville, Scio, and more.

  • Summerfest: Mark your calendars for July 25th.

  • Ghost Tour & Chocolate Walk: Our biggest volunteer needs of the year on October 24th (we need 15 volunteers for actors and guides!).

Ways You Can Get Involved

Whether you have a few hours a month or a specific professional skill, there is a place for you here:

  • Events & Hospitality: Help with setup and baked goods for our History Series , supervise community rentals, or act as a tour guide for our monthly open houses.

  • History & Archiving: Help us organize archives and compile our various history narratives into one cohesive story.

  • The "Finishing Touches" (Building & Grounds): We need painters for our new downstairs color palette, help installing memorial bricks, and a skilled hand to install our kitchen swinging doors.

  • Gardening & Housekeeping: Keeping our walkways swept, our gardens watered, and the interior windows sparkling.

  • Digital & Office: Help us with filing, social media posts, or managing our Google Ads account.

  • Leadership: We are also looking for Board Members to help set goals for event planning and fundraising.

See the full list of volunteer opportunities HERE. If you are interested in sharing your skills, or helping to staff events, please do let us know HERE. Thank you for being part of the 25-year journey to save the Brown House. We can’t wait to see you here soon.
